ASCO Motor’s Support Queen’s Baton Relay in Fiji

FASANOC would like to thank Asco Motors for their support in providing transport to accommodate the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games™ (GC2018) Queen’s Baton Relay team from the 20th of November, 2017.

Asco Motors will be providing vehicles that will be used to transport baton bearers and the Queens baton over the course of two days around Viti Levu.

Asco Motors also provided transport when the Queens Baton last visited the country in 2006.

Asco Motors CEO Craig Sims said, “As a responsible corporate citizen we strongly believe in supporting events that benefit the Fijain society. We are proud to be associated with FASANOC, especially for the Queen’s Baton Relay, as it celebrates community pride and it brings people all over Fiji together so they can be part of the Games and get behind the Fijian team.”

FASANOC CEO Lorraine Mar said they were thankful to Asco Motors for their support during this auspicious occasion.

The Queens Baton will be travelling through the country after a lapse of 11 years.

Fiji will welcome the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games™ (GC2018) Queen’s Baton Relay which arrives from Tonga, the sixtieth of its 71 Commonwealth destinations.

Fiji will play an important role in the Relay when it welcomes the Baton, providing our local communities the opportunity to “Share the Dream” of the GC2018.

2018 Commonwealth Games Chef de Mission Patrick Bower said they are delighted that Fiji has been granted the honour of hosting the GC2018 Queen’s Baton Relay.

“Hosting the Queen’s Baton Relay is not only an exciting event for our local community, the Relay is an opportunity to highlight and promote Fiji through international media interest.”

QBR Fiji Chair Inoke Niubalavu said preparations are almost complete to celebrate the arrival of the GC2018 Queen’s Baton Relay.

“We look forward to seeing many locals join in the festivities and turn out to cheer on the Relay’s baton bearers from the 21st to 22nd of November,” he said.

The Queen’s Baton Relay is the traditional curtain raiser to the Commonwealth Games and has been an integral part of the Games programme since the Cardiff 1958 Commonwealth Games in Wales.

The Relay began at Buckingham Palace on 13 March 2017, when Her Majesty The Queen handed the Baton to Australian cycling legend and Commonwealth and Olympic Games gold medallist, Anna Meares OAM, – the first of many thousands of baton bearers who will be a part of the Baton’s journey around the Commonwealth.

On an ambitious journey to connect with the modern and diverse Commonwealth of today, the GC2018 Queen’s Baton Relay will achieve two records: it will be the longest Relay ever, and the most accessible Relay to date.

Carrying the message from Her Majesty The Queen, the Baton will travel 288-days through Africa, the Americas, Caribbean, Europe, Asia and Oceania, before returning to Australia for a 100-day domestic sector.

The final Baton bearer will return the Baton to Her Majesty The Queen (or Her Representative) at the Games Opening Ceremony on 4 April 2018. The message will be removed from the Baton and read aloud to officially open the GC2018.

The international sector for the Queen’s Baton Relay is a joint initiative of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation in partnership with the Commonwealth Games Federation and locally with Commonwealth Games Fiji (FASANOC).
