42 countries representing six continents will be in Suva to be a part of the International Table Tennis Federations (ITTF) World Cadet Championship, which begins on the 21st and ends on the 29th of October, 2017 at the Vodafone Arena in Suva, Fiji.
The ITTF World Cadet Championship will feature over 60 athletes between the ages of 12 and 15-years-old and official and this will be one of the largest world sporting events held in Fiji.
Fiji Table Tennis President Anthony Ho said this would be the first time for Fiji Table Tennis to host a large event that will involve world class junior athletes.
"These athletes are the future champions of the sport," he said.
"The current world champion and Olympic champion are products of this age group championship."
Anthony is confident of their preparations for the event which began earlier this year with several Oceania tournaments.
“This is by far the most diverse representation for any sporting event in Fiji and I’m very proud to be part of this event.”
Anthony also expressed his gratitude to the support from sponsors and especially government after Fiji National Sports Commission chairperson, Peter Mazey announced the funding of $450,000 to host the world event.
Mr Mazey described Fiji Table Tennis is one of their success stories especially after showing the international body that Fiji was prepared to host a world event.
Mr Mazey also encouraged the public to show their support and to cheer on the future stars of the sport.
"It is a chance to be inspired by these athletes that come from all over the world and since entry is free we do encourage everyone to make it down to the Vodafone Arena and witness some amazing talent," he said.
