Suva has taken a commanding lead on the first day of the XV Fiji Games 2017 with a total of 22 gold medals, 16 silver medals and 8 bronze medals.
Suva dominated in the sport of Judo and Shooting, taking out 15 gold medals in Judo.
Following them closely is Levuka thanks largely to a dominate performance in the sport of Weightlifting.
Macuata managed two gold medals in the sport of shooting and cycling Rotuma also managed a solitary gold medal on the first day in the sport of weightlifting.
Taveuni also managed 2 gold medals in weightlifting.
With games to continue throughout the weekend, teams reaching the final stages of competition will receive medals.
Beach Volleyball, Boxing, Billiard, Darts, Squash, and Table Tennis will continue competitions throughout this weekend at different venues around Suva.
Athletics, Archery, Badminton, Baseball, Basketball, Golf, Squash and Powerlifting will begin competitions on Friday and Saturday respectively.
This year's Fiji Games will provide a good platform for the National Federation to select potential athletes for the Pacific Mini Games in Vanuatu in December, as well as other regional and International competitions.
The Fiji Games will end this Sunday.
