Chef de mission to the 2018 Commonwealth Games Patrick Bower wants fair selection criteria that all athletes should be aware of before making the Fiji team to participate overseas.
"Going to the Commonwealth Games is no easy task and we have a lot of work to do before we can go,” said Mr Bower.
He said it was important that we select the right sports leaders.
Mr Bower said the selection criteria should be fair across the board and that athletes are aware of this criteria.
He said Team managers were also encouraged to be responsible with the athletes and to show leadership qualities that would reflect well on Team Fiji when they left and after they arrived back into the country.
Mr Bower said he also believed that international games that Team Fiji participates in are critical building blocks for the country.
"We're building into the lives of athletes who will become our leaders for tomorrow," he said.
He said Team Fiji was also building through sports building leaders who are becoming a part of the nation and their communities.
FASANOC Chief Executive Lorraine Mar also stressed the importance of the media in getting that information across.
"This is the first time that we will be using the media to get that information or selection criteria out to the athletes so that they understand what they have to achieve in order to make the Fiji team," said Ms Mar.
FASANOC, in accordance with its Constitution, has the authority to set the minimum standards required for selection as a representative of a FASANOC sponsored Team to the Pacific Games.
Ms Mar said it was important that athletes and officials know what these standards were and to abide by them to ensure that they are able to perform to their best when representing Fiji overseas.
