In a break from the norm, FASANOC recognised the achievements of the Fiji Rugby Sevens Men's historic Olympic Gold medal performance by inducting the team into the Fiji Sports Hall Of Fame.
The recognition makes members: Osea Kolinisau, Apisai Domolailai, Semi Kunatani, Viliame Mata, Leone Nakarawa, Savenaca Rawaca, Vatemo Ravouvou, Kitione Taliga, Josua Tuisova, Jasa Veremalua, Jerry Tuwai, Samisoni Viriviri and Masivesi Dakuwaqa the first team to be inducted into the Hall Of Fame.
The award was received by Fiji Rugby CEO John O’Connor on behalf of the team.
Also conferred the Fiji Olympic Order was Coach Benjamin Ryan, whose award was received by former manager Ropate Kauvesi.
The Late Josaia Voreqe, a young athlete born in Korovou he joined the defense forces at the age 18 and became a member of the Defence Force 15's team and played great attacking rugby first at half back and later first five eight.
With a visit to New Zealand in view and competition keen for places, Josaia again fielded as a centre for his club. He was one of the first selected to make the trip in 1939 where he played in 7 of 8 matches scoring 7 tries.
The Late Josaia Voreqe joined his fellow team mates, Ratu Sir George Cakobau and Apakuki Tuitavua in the FASANOC Fiji Hall of Fame.
The award was received by his daughter Ateca Pickering.
Meanwhile technical Official at the Pacific Games and Oceania Championships from 1998-2015, one of his legacies is his Competition Director role in the annual Fiji Secondary School’s Coca-Cola games Filimoni Vuli Waqa was conferred the Fiji Olympic Order.
