Past Hall Of Fame Inductees Get Media Recognition

To be inducted into a Hall of Fame is the ultimate recognition that honours athletes and sports Administrators for their hard work, dedication and achievement throughout their sporting career.

To celebrate this amazing event is the inclusion through the media of past inductees.

This started with 2007 inductees; former athletics champion Albert Miller and continued with well known swimmer Sharon Pickering Smith being interviewed with the media.

Albert and Sharon’s experiences in their chosen sports as both athletes and then administrators have proved to be an inspiration to upcoming athletes and administrators.

The most recent inductee is former sprinter Vaciseva Tavaga who was inducted in 2015.

Ms Tavaga said to be inducted into the Hall of Fame was an honour.

"It is absolutely wonderful to be recognised for my efforts in athletics," she said.

From 1991 to 1995 Vaciseva was considered the Pacific Regions sprint queen, winning numerous medals in athletics in Regional and Oceania competitions in her favourite race, the 100 and 200 metres events.

Fiji Sports Hall of Fame convenor Makarita Lenoa said the Hall of Fames was a great opportunity for sportspersons to be recognised.

"This is an opportunity to nominate and recognise athletes and administrators who have achieved the highest level in sporting excellence and contributed to the development of sports in Fiji," Mrs Lenoa said.

The Hall of Fame will be held at the end of March in Nadi.

The Fiji Sports Hall of Fame was inaugurated in 1990 by the Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee, as an everlasting tribute to sportsmen and sportswomen of Fiji.

The Hall of Fame acknowledges and honours Fiji’s super athletes who for over 65 years have competed in Fiji and abroad against the best in the world. Many have excelled and brought glory and fame to themselves, their sport and to Fiji as a nation and deserve to be recognized and remembered by the people of Fiji.

The Fiji Olympic Order was inaugurated in 2001 to recognize the invaluable contributions of volunteers in the areas of:

• Sports Administration

• Sports Management

• Coaching/Technical aspects of Sports Development

• Sports Medicine

Forty “all time Fiji sporting greats” have been inducted into the Fiji Sports Hall of Fame and FASANOC is proud of all the Fiji Olympic Order recipients that total 18 recipients to date.

Comment Guidelines: The SportsTG Network is made up of players, families and passionate sports followers like you who have a strong opinion about sport. That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand. So play fair and have fun, and thanks for your contribution.
