The Bank of the South Pacific has once again thrown its support behind Sports in the country by sponsoring the 2017 Hall of Fame and Fiji Olympic Order that will be held towards the end of March.
General Manager Howard Politini said they have been part of the event since 2011 and were looking forward to the event.
"The event itself is a red carpet event and we are glad because it is an event that recognises the athletes that have represented Fiji abroad with distinction and the people that made it happen," said Mr Politini.
He said it was special that this year’s Hall of Fame and Olympic Order event coincided with ONOC's General Meeting making it another first.
The Fiji Sports Hall of Fame was inaugurated in 1990 by the Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee, as an everlasting tribute to sportsmen and sportswomen of Fiji.
The Hall of Fame acknowledges and honours Fiji’s super athletes who for over 65 years have competed in Fiji and abroad against the best in the world. Many have excelled and brought glory and fame to themselves, their sport and to Fiji as a nation and deserve to be recognized and remembered by the people of Fiji.
The Fiji Olympic Order was inaugurated in 2001 to recognize the invaluable contributions of volunteers in the areas of:
• Sports Administration
• Sports Management
• Coaching/Technical aspects of Sports Development
• Sports Medicine
Every year nominations are called for from National Sporting bodies and members of the general public for both honours.
FASANOC is grateful to those who support this prestigious Awards recognition initiative.
The selection of the successful candidates is the responsibility of an independent panel of judges, whose decision is final.
Forty “all time Fiji sporting greats” have been inducted into the Fiji Sports Hall Of Fame while the Fiji Olympic Order recipients total 18 to date.
