5 NEWLY ACCREDITED ORADO DCOS

Fereti ROKODI - FJ

Five (5) new Doping Control Officers (DCO) from American Samoa, Cook Islands and Fiji received their Oceania Regional Anti Doping Organisation (ORADO) accreditation after completing the South Pacific DCO workshop.

Facilitated by Steve NORTHEY, Sports Operations Manager - Australian Sports Anti Doping Authority (ASADA) and Mrs. Natanya POTOI-ULIA, ORADO Executive OFficer, the training consisted of theoretical and practical examinations that enforce and ensure compliance to the International Standard of Testing and Best Practices for Sample Collection.

Mr. NORTHEY emphasized the unobstructed viewing of urine sample collection and roles of DCO and chaperones to ensure integrity of the sample collected during the doping control process.

Mrs. POTOI-ULIA mentioned the introduction of post administration paper work session is an ORADO best practice and ensures full ownership of test missions by DCOs. This was a new workshop component ensuring DCOs and countries take full ownership of test missions from planning to sending of samples to a World Anti Doping Agency (WADA) accredited laboratory for analysis.

To date, ORADO have a pool of 18 accredited DCOs from American Samoa, Fiji, Samoa, Tonga and Vanuatu until July 1, 2013.

The Accreditation/Reaccreditation workshop was convened and completed at the Conference Room of the Oceania National Olympic Committees (ONOC) from Wednesday June 27 to Friday June 29, 2012.
