Only Does Gold! Bui-Duyet makes a clean sweep
One could be forgiven for thinking that winning a Gold Medal is something of a novelty - but not for Diane Bui-Duyet.
Her fourth South Pacific Games, Bui-Duyet from New Caledonia is somewhat of a veteran.
Taking out the Gold Medal in each of her six events marks a sensational effort for this Golden Girl. In five days of competition, Bui-Duyet came first in each of the Women's 4x200 Freestyle Relay, Women's 4x100m Freestyle Relay, Women's 100m Butterfly, Women's 50m Butterfly, Women's 4x100m Medley Relay and the Women's 50m Backstroke
At 28 years of age, this is not the first time Bui-Duyet has made a clean sweep.
Humble, but confident she says,"That was my aim for the Games. I enjoyed all the events, but a few were a challenge."
Explaining these challenges, Bui-Duyet said, "Having Caroline (Pickering) there, as well as my own personal pressure to improve my times, made some events more difficult, while others were pretty easy."
Breaking five South Pacific Games Records throughout the competition only heightens Bui-Duyets Gold glory.
Living and training in France, Bui-Duyet is looking forward to a break from swimming when she returns home. Taking a months leave from her vigorous schedule, Bui-Duyet will take time out to spend with family and friends before heading off to the World Championships in Australia and then on to compete in France.
