Athlete Profile: Michelle Dowling for Team Norfolk

Michelle Dowling is from Norfolk Island. She is 26 and has played as a representative for Norfolk Island since she was 15 years old.    Her netball experience was mostly local level at Norfolk Islands and she has also played against touring New Zealand teams. Michelle was also a member of the team for the Mini South Pacific Games in 2001.

This is her first South Pacific Games experience and she is enjoying the Games tremendously.   Although she injured her knee in their game with PNG the previous day, it has not dampened her spirits and has not stopped her from playing.

Michelle said she is missing watching the Rugby League games.  She said, `My father is Australian and Rugby League is very much a favourite sport in my family!'

I asked her what experience she would  take back home with her from these Games, and she said, "We have acquired many lessons by observing other countries and how they play. But most importantly it is the friendly spirit of the Games. Everyone is so warm and friendly that it will be hard to forget!'
