Tahiti has managed a to take the gold after a tense and titanic struggle against Fiji. The first set saw Tahiti take the lead 9-5 only for Fiji to come storming back to level at 10 all, the lead changed many times. Finau made the difference when she made 2 serves one deep and one rolling over the net to take the lead and the set 21-18.
The second set saw the 2 teams play to their strengths with Mereula making some excellent serves and directing the ball into the opposition court. Both teams drew level many times as they vied for control of the set. The set was level at 18 all after a flurry of points from both teams, Tere on song with her amazing spikes and Finau on defense blocking and receiving them. Mereula showed her experience using deft touched to change the direction of the ball. The breakthrough came when Vero made a deep smash to give Tahiti the lead and then Finau made 2 critical mistakes, a stray lineshot and touching the net to give Tahiti the set 21-18.
Tahiti made inroads into the Fijians defense with their powerful smashes finally taking a toll on Fiji. Tere was on a level of her own at the net as she broke a stalemate at 3-3 with a block and used her power to take the lead which Fiji could not overcome. Tahiti winning the set and match 15-9.
