Fiji Women Victorious Over PNG
Fiji's win of 96-46 was well earned obviously from their total domination of the game.
In the 1st quarter the Fiji girls were stealing the ball and retrieving rebounds. Fiji built up a comfortable lead with a first quarter score of 31-15.
Papua New Guinea was forcing their shots giving Fiji the advantage to take over the game three minutes into the 2nd quarter. Number 5 from Fiji hits a nice 3 pointer and number 7 hits a 35 foot long range shot at the end of the first half, making the score Fiji 53, PNG 22 at half time.
The Fijians in the 3rd quarter were still dominant inside the key scoring successful layups. This is not to mention their strong defence at PNG's attack. Papua New Guinea started forcing their passes on fast break and had little luck scoring.
The 3rd quarter finishes 69 - 37 Fiji's way only to have the 4th quarter increase Fiji's lead further taking advantage of Papua New Guineas mistakes. At the end of the match Fiji wins the game 96 - 46.
Fijian Assistant Coach - Charles Xavier says at the end "I felt happy about the game, it was a fast game and there was a height and speed difference between both teams. Fiji got al lot of good breaks and was in control of the match. The Papua New Guinea's point guard was out of the match but they still put up a good fight. Fiji has also a lot of experience with players playing overseas as well. Papua New Guinea played to their best and put up a good challenge."
