It was a tight game American Samoa having total control of the game in the first half. Fiji pulled out a strong lead eventually to win the game for gold.

In the first quarter the game was very close, American Samoa playing good zone defence. Both teams had same height and skill level. The game was very close like cat and mouse both ends of the court. The Fijian masses of the crowd were cheering to the top of their lungs as well as American Samoan's when they scored on the other end of the court.

During the second quarter, the game became very exciting and Fiji was drawing fouls to shoot free throws. Nicole Tamapua hits a great 3 pointer for American Samoa and the crowd screams joy for American Samoa. Fiji have a nice man to man defence covering the zone making sure no outside or inside shots are made.

The third quarter started still as a very tight game. Fiji takes the lead now 42 - 38 with 7:00 minutes remaining. Fiji started to pull away making the lead much larger, towards the end of the third quarter. Eventually Fiji starts to make a ten point gain on American Samoa from steels and rebounds, Fiji scores mostly from fast breaks. They utilise this game play every time they get the opportunity. But one big 3 pointer silences the crowd from Fiji's Sera Colata, making the score 53 - 40 Fiji.

Fourth quarter Letava Whippy from Fiji hits a 3 point basket and then Krista Malia Pritchard from American Samoa hits a 3 pointer and the crowd are almost on their feet.  Unfortunately for American Samoa there was some bad passes losing them possession of the ball, but still desperate to get the game back. Latoya Marshall from American Samoa bringing American Samoa back into the game but toward the end of the fourth quarter American Samoa was over their foul limit and Fiji took the games winning free throws till the buzzer beater siren rang to bring the game to a conclusion  70 - 62 Fiji.
