Day 5 - New Caldonia vs. Fiji
After the tough loss in the morning game to Palau, New Caldonia had no time to relax as Fiji was waiting in the wings. After a short scare in the early innings, New Caldonia put away Fiji with an 11-run fourth inning pounding on route to a 16-5 victory to remain in second place of the tournament.
New Caldonia came out ready to go, with a 2-run single by Kevin Velayoudon in a 4-run first inning. Fiji responded with a 5 runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead. Fiji's Tavo Sorovakatini singled in two runs and scored himself on an error, two passed balls led to the two other scores for Fiji in the inning. Fiji was unable to produce much of anything for the rest of the game.
New Caldonia brought in Mike Calmes to pitch in the second inning, who pitched beautifully for the rest of the game. Fiji never reached third base again. The fourth inning eruption by New Caldonia was highlighted with a shot to left centerfield by Brieu Mallet on a 3-run triple, who also scored on the play after an overthrow.
