Day 1 - American Samoa vs. Fiji

Fiji's Aisake Waqavonovono rounds the bases after hitting the first home run of the games

American Samoa defeated Fiji, 28-7 in three innings at Faleata Sports Complex.  The game was a display of offense throughout the entire game with American Samoa coming out on top.  American Samoa sealed the victory with a surge of 16 runs in the third inning.

Once American Samoa started its offensive in the 3rd inning it did not stop until the game was called due to the Run Rule where a game is called if a 20 run margin exists at the end of the 3rd inning.  American Samoa's John Solaita went 2-for-3 scoring 4 runs and batting in 6 runs.  Teammate Marcus Langkild went 2-for-3, scoring 3 runs and batting in 4.  In the 2nd inning, American Samoa committed 4 errors which Fiji used to score 4 runs.  American Samoa quickly retaliated in the 3rd inning by scoring 16 runs.  Fiji put forth some good numbers thanks to the efforts of members like Aisake Wagavonovono (#3), Fiji's catcher.  Wagavonovono went 2-for-2 with a triple and the first home run of this year's competition.  When asked for comments on today's game, American Samoa coach Peni Solaita said "Our offense was not very good.  We've got to attack the ball."
