THE national rugby sevens team to the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia, wants gold.

And to get that elusive gold medal, team coach and captain Waisale Serevi says his players had been training hard.

"Like any other team going into the tournament, we want to win. England wants to win, South Africa and Australia want to win too," he said.

He urged fans to back them with prayers when they play at the end of the week. Supporters can send messages of encouragement directly to the Games Village or through the Fiji Rugby Union.

Serevi said he was proud to represent Fiji. "We are ready to go and play," he said.

"I'm happy with what we've done in training and things are going well as planned. We did play four games yesterday (Friday).

"(There were a) couple of mistakes, which can be costly but we can do that (fix it) when we arrive there on Sunday (today)."

The Games open on Wednesday and the sevens competition kicks off on Thursday, with the finals scheduled for Friday.
