Minginfel agonisingly close to top ten finish

Minginfel, lifting in the B category competition in the morning, has finished in 11th spot with a combined total of 272.5kg. Minginfel missed out on a top ten finish by 7.5kg.

The total, which is below his personal best, was still enough to put Minginfel amongst the world's elite weightlifters.

Minginfel started his campaign with a 115kg snatch. His second snatch of 120kg was deemed a no-lift by the judges who ruled at he did not straighten his elbow. Minginfel redeemed himself in his third snatch by powerfully clearing the 120kg.

Minginfel missed his first attempt at the 147.5 Clean and Jerk, before going on to clear it in his second attempt, followed by a clear lift of 152.5 in his third and final lift in the Clean and Jerk.

The gold medal in the 62kg class was won by China's Zhiyong SHI, who set an Olympic Snatch record of 152.5kg on his way to a total of 325kg. Silver went to Maosheng LE, also of China, with a comibined total of 312.5kg. Greece's local hero, Leonidas SAMPANIS was the poular winner of the bronze medal with a combined lift of 312.5kg
