New Caledonia to host 2011 South Pacific Games

The South Pacific Games Council meeting in Koror, Palau has completed the vote to determine the host for the 2011 South Pacific Games. In the first round of voting, New Caledonia received 22 votes, Solomon Islands 12 votes and American Samoa 11 votes. As no member country had received 50% of the votes cast, American Samoa's name was removed as a potential host for the 2011 Games. In the final vote New Caledonia won 27 votes to 18 for Solomon Islands to win the right to host the South Pacific Games for the third time in 2011.
