On Friday, November 14, 2014, BWF conducted practices at GBH that lasted for 1½ hours. There were about 70 students from the 7th grade that participated in the PE class. With this many students, 2 wrestling mats were brought over to GBH. A presentation and demonstration to include takedowns and other wrestling techniques was provided to the students. All the students participated in all the fun activities while having a great workout.
This was a fun day for all the students who were exposed for the first time ever to mainly fitness activities on the wrestling mat. The activities included warm up exercises, a little running, stretching, basic movements such as rolling, cart wheels and other types of exercises to help with their flexibility, motor/movement skills, strength and conditioning as well as building balance, strategy and confidence while having fun. After the practice, there were snacks for everyone to enjoy.
Belau Wrestling Federation would like to thank and acknowledge Mr. Dean Terry, PE Specialist for the MOE, MES, Principal Wicliff Emul from GBH Elementary and all the teachers that took part in the program and allowed us the opportunity and time to expose our sport to their students. We would also like to recognize and thank Mr. Frank Kyota, President of PNOC and General Manager of IP & E Palau for assisting us with the transportation of the mats to GBH through the use of their truck and staff from IP&E Palau.
