OLYMPIC youth weightlifting gold medallist Manueli Tulo lived up to his words of increasing Fiji's medal tally at the Pacific Games in New Caledonia. Tulo won three gold medals for Fiji in the 56kg weightlifting competition at Conception Hall in Mont-Dore yesterday.
He dedicated his first Pacific Games gold medal to all the fathers in Fiji who celebrated Father's Day on Sunday. The Levuka lad snatched a personal best of 105kg and lifted 126kg in the clean and jerk for a total of 231kg.
"This gold is for all the fathers at home especially to my dad," Tulo said after the medals ceremony.
"I came here promising that I would win three gold medals. It was not easy to live up to that promise but I am happy that I am able to win something for my country."
Tulo said he was proud to represent Fiji and win gold.
"I'm really happy with my performance. This is my first gold medal in the Pacific Games and I believe this is a good platform for me before the world championship," he said.
Tulo is preparing for the world championship.
