Rugby League Course Successful

The Solomon Islands Rugby League Basic Referee Course was very successful. The course was attended by teachers and club’s representatives. It was conducted by Peter Corcoran the Educational Director of the New South Wales Rugby League. He was sent by the Australian Rugby League and was assisted by Darren who serves under the Australian Federal Police (AFP). The participants were awarded certificates of attainment which will allow them to join in a Level 1 course in the near future.
The SIRL Executive with the help of Darren will organize pre-season touch rugby competitions in two weeks time. The aim of the competition is to help the participants of the recent development course and the players to learn more of the basic rules and skills of the game. Also to select a team to go through intensive training in preparation for an exhibition match with the New South Wales Defense team in July. So people who are interested are mostly welcomed to join the upcoming competitions.
On behalf of the Executive I wish to thank organizations and individuals who make this course possible. Firstly, to Peter and Tas of the Australian Rugby League who value the importance of rugby league in Solomon Islands, Darren for the logistic support and his contributions to the course, the administration of the Honiara High School for hosting the event and the participants.
The ARL through Peter has sent in sports equipments, educational DVD’s and some instructional manuals that will help to enhance the development of rugby league in the country.
