2009 Pacific Netball Series

The Pepes competed in June 2009 in Samoa at the inaugural Pacific Netball Series between hosts Samoa and the Cook Islands. A game was also played against the Samoan U21 side. Fiji withdrew from the competition. The tournament was IFNA sanctioned and was a valuable opportunity for the Pepes to secure ranking points in a bid to qualify for the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Dehli, India in October 2010. The top 11 ranked Commonwealth countries as at 31 October 2009, plus the hosts India will compete in the Games Netball competition.

The Pepes had a close tussle with the hosts Samoa (ranked 5th in the world), PNG leading 14-11 at Q1, 28-24 at half time, 38-38 at Q3 and 50-50 at the end of regular time, before going down in extra time 65-55 (down 54-52 at the end of the 1st period).

The Pepes played a friendly against the Samoan U21's confortably winning 64-40.

Against the Cooks (ranked 10th), the Pepes played another tough game with scores locked at 14 all at Q1, the Pepes up 23-22 at half time, down 32-34 at Q3 before being overrrun late in the game, losing 39-48 against an experienced Cooks team boasting 2 former NZ Silver Ferns.
