Another Big Weekend For Gauna
It was another big weekend for Maciu Gauna in Wollongong as his Wests Illawarra club recorded two wins and once agin Maciu was in the runs.
Playing the second day of their two day match against Corrimal on Saturday, Wests wrapped up a win by dismissing their opponents for 138 and then again for 47 to record an outright win that has put the team on the top position on the second grade ladder. Gauna had been an integral part of the victory scoring an unbeaten 65 on the first day's play to set up an imposing first innings total.
Boosted by the good result in second grade, Gauna then played for the club's Under 21 team against Port Kembla on Sunday in the Under 21 competition and once again was in the runs.
With Wests batting first Gauna came to the wicket with the score at 3/116 after good work by Matthew McKenzie (50) and Mitchell Calder (44). Seizing on the opportunity to continue his good form of recent weeks, Maciu proceeded to top score for his side with an unbeaten 79, including 14 fours.
By the end of their 50 overs Wests had moved to 6/237, giving Port Kembla a sizable total to chase.
Just to show that his day wasn't yet finished he took two catches in Port's innings of 119 as Wests completed a 118 run victory that puts them on top of their group in the Under 21 competition with two wins from two games.
Maciu's innngs has taken his run tally for the season to 442 runs at the impressive average of 73.7 as he continues to lead the club's run scoring tally. It's proving to be some season for Maciu in his first year playing club cricket in Australia.
