Preliminary Fiji Blues Squad Announced

The Fiji Blues preparation for the World Cricket League Division 5 competition has stepped up a notch with the national selectors naming a 22 player preliminary squad.

With the Blues looking for a good performance at the WCL competition in Nepal, players have been playing in the Elite Player League for the past month with the aim of catching the selectors’ eye with strong performances.

“Now that we are at the half way mark of the EPL we have selected a preliminary squad,” said Cricket Fiji General Manager.

“After the completion of the league in December we will select a final squad, so there is still an opportunity for more players to work their way into the team.”

Six previous squad members have not been included in the preliminary squad.

“We didn’t consider Omid Saberi for selection because of injury, but as he works his way back into the EPL he will be considered based on his performance,” said Shaw.

“We have also omitted five other players for disciplinary reasons.  They will have to improve their attendance and attitude at EPL games and training if they hope to be selected in the final squad.”

The squad includes four players who have not been selected in recent national training squads – Tavo Sorovakatini, Patrick Tuidraki, Mesui Qalobula and Tasheed Tawheed.  All have been selected based on their performances in the first half of the EPL.
