Lomani, Baba and Cakacaka Selected in EAP Teams of the Tournament
Three members of the Fiji Blues have been rewarded for great performances at the EAP Cricket Trophy with selection in the EAP Teams of the Tournament.
All rounder Jo Baba was selected in both the T/20 and the 50 Over Teams of the Tournament after impressive batting performances and good spells as a first change bowler. He was named as Man of the Match in games against Japan and Indonesia.
Baba scored his maiden international century in the T/20 game against Indonesia and was also in the runs against Samoa and Japan. His performances are a big boost to his confidence as he prepares to depart Fiji for Wollongong to play a season of club cricket with Western Suburbs Cricket Club. No doubt he'll be looking ot continue that form with his new club as he prepares for his next international engagement with the Blues in the World Cricket League Division 5 tournament in Nepal in February.
Joining Baba in the T/20Team of the Tournament is experienced spinner and middle order batsman Iniasi Cakacaka, who has proven that T/20 cricket is not just for the youngsters. Cakacaka regularly claimed wickets and batted beautifully in the games against Vanuatu and Samoa to earn his place.
Paceman Sakaraia Lomani was selected in the 50 over Team of the Tournament after some impressive opening spells and lusty late order hitting. His opening spell against PNG was some of the best bowling seen at an EAP tournament and he led the way as the Blues ripped through the top order to leave them reeling at 6 for 45. At top pace he is a fearsome sight for any batsman.
Lomani also showed his batting skills with a match turning 41 against Japan in the Blues nailbiting last ball win. Sent in with the instructions to hit away, Lomani brought the Blues back into the match and brought the required run rate down to an achievable run a ball.
All three players were fully deserving of their selections and it's a sure sign that the Blues program is heading in the right direction.
