Hoops for Health Training Workshop in Kiribati

Hoops for Health is the potential project runs by the FIBA Oceania targeting to launch this program to each of the national federation throughout the pacific region. This program is fully funded and controls  by the Australian Sport Commission under PSP. After being well planned about this program this year, FIBA Oceania agreed to implement/first launch the H4H project to the Kiribati Basketball Federation and confirmed that on the 23rd - 25th is the most convenient date to conduct the training course. This is part of the training course conducted in Fiji, Suva by BF which the NBDO Iotia P from Kiribati and Kautu Temakei, Head Coach also attended the course and return to implement H4H project to the Kiribati Basketball Federation.

3 day workshop

On day one workshop most of the topic was covered FIBA H4H administration which in cooperated with OSEP and following with productive, fun, healthy and active topic in the next two days which enable all 20 participants keep coming and not boring. Representatives from different communities including 13 reps from each members of the clubs, 3 teachers reps from schools for three zones (Betio schools, east and west schools), 2 reps from Tarawa Urban Council and 2 women reps from the community. In completion of the course KBF expect that each participant will be competent. According to the action plan reviewed each participants gives a workplace assessment date within 1 month to be assess by NBDO and H4H Co-ordinator in schools and communities. After the assessment carried out NBDO will report back to H4H and to KBF to confirm competency of coach. That coach will become the H4H coach and will work closely with Tek and NBDO.

The KBF, NBDO and H4H Co-ordinator and together with all the members of basketball in Kiribati expected that this project will maintain well and gives time/opportunity to our H4H coaches to help grow number of young kids, older/veterans/ministries, women to involve in the program.

We are very fortunate to have this project in Kiribati and thank you very much FIBA Oceania for your great support.
