High School ballers must aim high

Vice president of the Solomon Islands basketball Federation (SIBF), Delma Nori has urged participating schools in the 2017 High School Basketball League to aim high rather than just to play for fun.

Mrs Nori made the call during the brief opening ceremony of the High School Basketball league yesterday.

She said the federation’s focus now is to select young talents from schools to prepare for the 2023 Pacific Games which will be held in the country.

“You must aim high, not just to come and play for your teams and for fun.

“Do your best so selectors can see the potential you have and you can be drafted into the training squad.

“The federation wants to concentrate on the secondary schools to select our future squad.

“We are aiming to win a medal for Basketball in the 2023 Games.

She added it will be tough during the competition but urged all students to show good sportsmanship.

“It will be tough during the competition but show good sportsmanship.

“Basketball should be an avenue where we create relationship and friendship with others,” she said.

Mrs Nori also calls for good match officiating and fair play.

The High School Basketball competition kicked off yesterday at the Multipurpose Hall.

Ten schools have been confirmed to participate in this year’s league.
