Basketball Development in Samoa

The President of Samoa National Basketball Federation, Talalelei Pauga ran a coach course called “Start Coaching Basketball” on the 3rd and 4th August 2017 at Apia Park Gymnasium. This is an endorsed course by FIBA in order to help develop our local coaches who were interested. After this successful course, we were also blessed to have Annie La Fleur from FIBA run the “Rookie Coach Course” on the 8th August 2017 at SASNOC from 3pm – 5:30pm with 17 participants who took part in the theory component of this course. The second part of the Rookie Coach Course will be the Practical which will be run at Apia Park from 3 – 5:30pm.

Annie’s schedule for her visit includes:

  1. Referee Clinics -Theory on Thursday 3pm – 5pm

-          Practical on Friday 3pm – 5pm for College games.

  1. 3x3 Open Competition – Saturday 9am at Apia Park.

We are having the High School Tournament this week on Friday and the referees will be able to use what they have learnt from the courses to run the game.Annie will return back on Sunday but hope it will have a huge impact on the players, coaches, referees, and the audience too by a change the Federation will have in the upcoming events like the Teuila Festival on the first week of September.
