Ngaraard Red Torch beats Cardinals in OT

Team Ngaraard Red Torch scored its initial win after besting a hard fighting Hanpa Cardinals, 92-89 in overtime Tuesday night in the 2013-14 season of the IP&E Amateur Basketball League (ABL) at the Palau National gym.


Red Torch was leading 68-61 going into the fourth quarter when the Cardinals outscored them with a 21-14 output that tied the game at 82-all. In the extra period, the Red Torch caught fire and was able to fend off the Cardinas with a 10-7 run to win the game.

Traxx Remeliik led the game with 27 points as Douglas Schmidt added 22 as they join in the winning column with a 1-0 win-loss tally. Four Cardinals finished in double digits namely Michale Bombita with 32 while teammates Coco Gonzales, Richard Lanuza and Mhomar Sismaet chipped in 16, 13 and 12 on the losing end.

In other games, Surangel Kings won over the Ranchers, 92-67; Ikelauans beat Idid 4x4 Wheelers, 20-0; Medalaii Meda Boys defeated Matakui, 73-55; and Papago Smooth fend off Ngarchelong Blue Shark, 67-52.

Games will resume tonight with Ngaraard Red Torch versus Papago Smooth at 6 p.m. while Matakui will meet Stingers at 7:30 p.m.

Monday night games will feature Ngarchelong Blue Shark against Surangel Kings at 6 p.m. followed by the Ikelauans-Raw Surf tussle at 7:30 p.m. while Hanpa Cardinals will battle Meyuns Red Storm in the main game at 9 p.m.

Teams this season, teams are divided into two pools. Pool A will have Papago Smooth, Ngarchelong Blue Shark, Ngaraard Red Torch, Hanpa Cardinals, Surangel Kings, Meyuns Red Storm, Melngoes, Ranchers, Ididers and Ngermid Rivals. Pool B will be composed of MEDA Boys, Matakui, Idid 4x4 Wheelers, Ikelauans, Stingers, Lawmen PEAC, Raw Surf, Breakers, Airwaves and PCC Mesekiu.
