Gonzales, Bombita share top honors in FBL awarding rites

The dynamic duo of Coco Gonzales and Michael Bombita of the defending champions FR Spoilers shared the top spot during the awarding rites of the 2012 Filipino Basketball League (FBL) Sunday, at the Sea Passion Hotel.

Gonzales, who made an impact in the league with his stunning defense and court management, was named at the league’s finals MVP while his teammate Bombita was judged as the league’s season MVP.

As if that was not enough both Gonzales and Bombita also joined the elite club of the Mythical Five together with their man in the middle Mark Pagayanan, Nico Hinosa of MJ Rangers and Arnold Undecimo of Surangel and Sons.

MJ Rangers also got the spotlight as Jay Naguit was named as the league’s defensive player of the year while his younger brother Joemar Naguit was named best improved player. The rookie of the year went to Western Union’s Nino Cajegas.

The sportsmanship award was given to team Rams while the coach of the year for the Regular League went to Jun dela Cruz of FR Spoilers.

In the Master’s League, Jun Apostolero of D’Originals was named as the coach of the year as Rogelio Fernandez also D’Originals was judged as the finals MVP.

Fernandez also joined the Mythical Five selection together with veteran skipper Jimmy Domingo, Sonny Jacinto and Ernie Magsipoc of 9-Balls Friendsters.
