AIRAI STATE YOUTH DAY TOURNAMENT
The opening ceremony was held in sunshine at the Airai court on Friday and teams quickly settled into the double elimination tournament. But on Saturday the skies opened and heavy rain caused the tournament to be moved to PNG and played at night to catch up.
In the men’s division team Ngetkib advanced to the championship game with a 72-55 win over team Ordomel. From the losers bracket Ordomel managed to advance to the final also but went down again to Ngetkib by 88 – 56.
Team Ngersuar only just managed to beat Ordomel in a close game by 46-44 in the women’s division to advance to the final. Ordomel also advanced to the final but again managed to lose another close game to Ngersuar by 48 – 45.
