Spoilers take Game One of FBL c’ship series

In a bid to retain their crown, defending champion FR Spoilers drew first blood as they beat Western Union, 91-78 in Game One of their best of three championship series in the 2013 season of the Filipino Basketball League at the Palau National gym.

After the game was tied at 25-all at the end of the first quarter, the Spoilers roared their way in the second canto as they orchestrated a 27-18 run to close the first half with a 52-42 lead.

From there, the Spoilers stood their ground and led all the way to take a 1-0 lead in the series. Lester Mendoza led the scoring fray for the Spoilers as he clipped 26 points as teammate Michael Bombita added 21.

On the other hand, Dennis Castro carried the load for Western Union with 21 markers as teammate Anon Cajegas chipped in 15.

Game two of the series will played on August 11 at 1:30 p.m.

In the curtain raiser, Surangel Stars climbed a mountain as they drowned RP Rangers, 79-76 to take third place honors.

Games are supervised by the Palau Basketball Federation (PBF). This year’s FBL League is supported by ATT Bar and Restaurant, HE Automotive, Palasia Hotel, Palau Royal Resort, Surangel and Sons Company, FR Construction, Engrs.
