Peched Raw takes Game 1

Defending champion Peched Raw showed its wares as they beat a hard fighting Ngermid Rivals, 89-86 Wednesday night to gain an upper hand in Game One of their best of five championship series in the 2014 IP&E National Basketball League (NBL) at the Palau National gym.

Peched Raw started hot as they took a 25-19 lead in the opening frame but was slowed down in the second canto as Ngermid Rivals took a 27-20 rally to close the half with a 46-45 advantage.

Both teams went toe-to-toe as the score was tied at 69-all at the end of the third quarter, but Peched Raw gained the advantage in the final canto as they spurted a 20-17 run to take the win.

Four players from Peched Raw finished the game in double figures. Sunshine Soalablai finished the game with 22 as Gino Smau and Dennis Castro had identical 18 markers, respectively while Traxx Mark Remeliik tallied 17 as they take a 1-0 lead in the series.

Marvic Ngchar topscored for Ngermid Rivals with 32 while teammates Ray Rumong and Elway Ngiraboi had 17 and 13, in that order.

Game Two of the finals is set tonight at 7:30 p.m. while Game Three is on Monday also at 7:30 p.m.

Peched Raw barged their way into the finals after beating Medalaii Meda Boyz, 86-68 in the semifinals while Ngermid Rivals entered the championship after besting Surangel Kings, 91-80 in their own semis match.

In the battle for third place, Medalaii Meda Boyz took the consolation game winning by default against Surangel Kings.
