West All Stars get back at East All Stars

Since losing to them in their first meeting, the West All Stars made some adjustments and came back with a vengeance as they beat the East All Stars, 102-73 Friday night in the ongoing 2012 IP&E NBL Super League at the Palau National gym.

The win avenged the West All Stars lost to their Eastern counterparts last July 20 when they fell, 85-64.

After taking a 68-60 lead in three quarters, the West All Stars orchestrated a 34-13 run in the final quarter that gave them the cushion and the win. Douglas Schmidt came guns blazing as he finished with 32 points as they now share the top spot with FR Spoilers with identical 3-1 win-loss records, respectively.

Arnold Undecimo and Mike Williams topscored for the East All Stars with identical 16 markers as they suffered their second loss for a 2-2 tally in the team standings.

In other games, FR Spoilers drubbed the Nationals 17 and Under squad, 105-92.

Games will resume on Wednesday night for the playoffs wherein the no. 1 team meets the no. 4 squad and the no. 2 team takes on the no. 3 team. Winners will then advance to the finals set on August 3 at 7:30 p.m. while the losers will face off for the consolation game at 6 p.m.

The tournament, which is supervised by the Palau Basketball Federation (PBF), is a tobacco, alcohol and drug free program. Any violators will be banned from participating. For more information call Topps at 488-4491.  By Peter Erick L. Magbanua  (Island Times News)
