WCC Hammers, Red Torch beat rivals in IP&E NBL

Teams WCC Hammers and Ngaraard Red Torch showed poise as they defeated separate rivals, Tuesday night in the ongoing elimination round of the 2014 IP&E National Basketball League (NBL) at the Palau National gym.

WCC Hammers adds another victory to their cause with their 70-67 come from behind victory over the Breakers. The Hammers started slow as they were caught in a 20-17 deficit in the opening quarter but managed to bounce back in the second as they spurted a 19-16 run to close the first half of play with the score tied at 36-all.

In the second half, it was still a close match as both teams finished the third canto with identical 15 out as they score was still tied at 51-all. The Hammers made their break in the final quarter as they outscored the Breakers with a 19-16 run to take the win.

Franky Kuchad led the scoring for WCC Hammers with 20 points as Mike Williams and Brandon Harvey chipped in 14 and 12 baskets. Arnel Skebang topscored for the Breakers with 24 while teammate Moses Tarkong gathered 14 on the losing side.

On the other hand, Medermel Yaoch tallied 25 markers as he led Ngaraard Red Torch past the Ngerchemai Ranchers, 76-75.

In other games, Breakers won over Medalaii Meda Boyz, 74-71; and Ngermid Rivals beat Matakui, 92-84.

Games will resume tonight with Ngermid Rivals versus Ngaraard Red Torch at 7 p.m.
