Spoilers, WU down rivals

Defending champion FR Spoilers and Western Union continue their winning ways after beating separate rivals, Sunday in the ongoing 2012 season of the Filipino Basketball League at the Palau National gym.

The defending champs needed an extra period to beat a tough Ilocandia Bulls, 122-111 in overtime. The game ended in the fourth quarter with the score tied at 97-all. In the extra period, the Spoilers showed their firepower as they outscored the Bulls with a 25-14 output to secure the win and keep their record clean at 9-0 in the team standings.

Coco Gonzales paced the Spoilers with 22 points while Michael Bombita and Aries Echanova chipped in identical 16 baskets, respectively.

Joeger Supnet and Raul Osias kept the Bulls alive after finishing 39 and 22 markers, in that order. But their efforts were futile as the Spoilers’ defense did much of the damage as they now sport a 6-4 tally.

On the other hand, Dennis Castro sizzled for 36 baskets as he led Western Union over Surangel and Sons, 96-77. Castro’s performance was backed by sniper Erwin Senadre who added 18 as they now sport a 7-2 record while Surangel and Sons are 5-4.

In other games, Hanpa Cardinals fended off Jaguar, 84-61 while 9-Ball Friendsters defeated Ocean View/PCGM, 89-87.
