GBH Smuuch wins EACS Girls league

George B. Harris Elementary School (GBH) Smuuch displayed pressure defense and teamwork as they went on to beat Meyuns Elementary School (MES) Demul Fines, 59-51 to win the EACS Central Schools Girls basketball league, Wednesday at the Palau National gym.

Both teams struggled in the opening quarter as MES managed to take a 7-6 lead, but GBH’s pressure defense paved way in the second canto as they outscored MES with a 23-12 output to close the first half with a 29-19 lead.

From there, GBH never looked back as their stinging defense and teamwork made wonders for them to win the championship crown. Greta Otei led the scoring chores for GBH with 19 points as teammate Dil-Eluut Tarkong added 14 while Trang Ksano single-handedly lifted MES as she finished with 40 markers.

It was an uphill climb for GBH after finishing the elimination round with a 4-2 win-loss tally they went to beat the SDA Queens, 42-31 to get the last seat in the finals while MES fended off Koror Elementary School (KES) Stars, 35-32 to get into the finals.

On the other hand, Ngeyaol Rechelluul finished with 16 baskets to lead the SDA Queens past KES Stars, 36-35 to take third place honors.

Winners were awarded with specially crafted trophies immediately after the games supervised by the Palau Basketball Federation (PBF).   By Peter Erick L. Magbanua (Island Times News)
