Kabong retains Shell ABL title
After taking a 23-11 lead in the opening quarter, team Kabong exploded as they closed the first half with a 46-30 lead. From there, team Kabong went all the way to secure Game Three and sweep the championship series with a 3-0 count.
Four players of team Kabong scored in double figures namely Perry Oiterong who led the scoring chores with 36 points while teammates Dembei Watanabe added 23, Douglas Schmidt had 19 and Traxx Mark tallied 14 markers.
On the other hand, Sherwin topscored for the Airwaves with 22 markers as they settled for the runners-up for this season.
Kabong took Game One with an 88-70 win and then followed it up with their 95-81 victory over the Airwaves in Game Two.
In the consolation game, Idid 4Wheelers won over High Tide, 97-87.
Winners received their trophies immediately after the game. The awardees are as follows: Champion – Team Kabong (sponsored by Koror Wholesalers), 2nd place – Airwaves (sponsored by Sarah’s Yum-Yum), 3rd Place – Idid 4Wheelers (sponsored by Sen. Regis Akitaya), Sportsmanship Award – PCC Mesekiu, Season MVP – Perry Oiterong (team Kabong), Finals MVP – Douglas Schmidt (team Kabong), Coach of the Year – Clint Mersai (Airwaves), Rookie of the Year – Ryan Zinchefsky (team High Tide).
Meanwhile, in the WNBL, team Money took Game One of their semifinals series as they routed Smooth Riders, 49-38. Tara led team Money with 15 points while Charm topscored for Smooth Riders with 10.
The tournament sanctioned by the Palau Basketball Federation and is a tobacco, alcohol and drug free program. All violators will be banned from participating.
