Rangers came out firing in the first quarter with big contributions by their center Jay Naguit with 8 points and well supported by his younger brother Jomar with 6 points to take the first quarter by 31-23.  The second period was close, with low scoring and better defence by both teams, and at the long break Rangers led by 41-34.

Western Union picked up their offence in the 3rd quarter to tie the score at 59 each at the end of the period.  This brought the large crowd to life for the final period and it was basket for basket with the score remaining tied for the whole quarter.  With the score locked at 76 each the game went into overtime.

In the final period the Naguit brothers took control to score 9 of their team’s 11 points while holding the Western Union team to just 5 points.  Game 2 should be a thriller next Sunday.

In the consolation game for 3rd place it was the newcomers in Ilocandia Bulls defeating Surangel and Sons by 96 – 93.
