Basketball tournament raises funds for relief efforts

Twenty-six basketball teams are competing in a Winston Appeal Basketball Tournament which is currently underway at the Vodafone Arena in Suva.

The organisers have decided that all proceeds from the tournament will be directed to the Prime Minster’s relief fund. About 300 people are participating in the event.

Basketball Fiji, Development Officer, Mr. Laisiasa Puamau said all proceedings will go towards the TC Winston Prime Minster’s relief fund.

"We cancelled our annual Easter tournament because some of our teams from the Western division could not make it, so we decided to replace it with a Winston appeal to fundraise and put all proceedings towards the Prime Minister’s fund. Each team member paid $10 towards the Winston appeal. "

Mr. Puamau said the teams are from the Eastern and Western Divisions.

A team from the United States of America is also participating in the tournament.
