USP will accommodate U19 players

THE University of the South Pacific campus will be home to the visiting FIBA Oceania Basketball under-19 teams during the competition next week.

Yesterday, Basketball Fiji representatives and USP vice-chancellor signed a memorandum of understanding to seal the deal.

Basketball Fiji president Iowane Naivalurua said they were thankful to USP for coming on board to provide accommodation.

"We're so thankful to USP for providing this accommodation," he said.

"We have been looking around for a suitable place where the overseas teams could be accommodated during the competition.

"We're so thankful this has come in the right timing.

"USP is near to the Vodafone Arena, it's a very suitable accommodation to the overseas teams."

While expressing his sincere gratitude, Naivalurua honestly expressed an interest of a future partnership with USP.

Rajesh Chandra, the vice-chancellor at USP, said it was important they got engaged in any regional activity.

Australia and Guam arrived into the country yesterday while other teams are expected to arrive this weekend.

Australia, New Zealand, Guam, New Caledonia, Samoa, American Samoa, PNG, Solomon Islands, Tahiti and host Fiji are the participating teams for the upcoming tournament which starts next Monday at the Vodafone Arena in Suva.
