League on road again

LEAGUE games are back on track this week as the Suva/Laucala Basketball Association started their first week of competitions. President of the Suva/Laucala Association Leonard Whippy was impressed with the increase in competition standards. He said this was because of the stiff and high level competition experienced and watched during the Easter Championship. This is a good sign in view of the fact that Whippy's aims and goals was to increase the levels of basketball competitions in Fiji. This is slowly becoming a reality. With the opportunities of overseas contracts, Whippy is aspiring to get Fiji in gear for the future. Although, Whippy was aiming to get at least eight men's teams and five women's, he was happy with four men's and two women's teams that did turn up. He said it was a good number and that registrations were still open to other teams who would be interested in competing. Easter Champion Saints were in top shape as they bounced off along with in-house rival Shaq Attaq. This year's newcomers Air Iguanas, the Namadi Idaman team and Pitbulls blew off some of the dust that had settled since the Easter Championship. Apart from the league competitions, Whippy is running children clinics for the holidays.
