THE Crossroad basketball team have fielded a young team to participate in the Raiwaqa Basketball Association interlane competition.

Team captain Josaia Qalotaki said the team was part of a development squad under the Boston club.

“These players are primary school students who are part of our development squad called the Mighty Sharks and at this stage they are trained before they join the senior team in the club,” he said.

“The main aim for this competition is to expose our young players and develop them at playing at national level.

“We’re preparing them for the under-15 tournament for the Oceania and we’re building up our Raiwaqa players to secure a spot in the national team.

“We’re trying to get more kids into the competition and teach them the basic skills of playing basketball and hopefully one day they can represent the country in any international tournament.”

Qalotaki thanked the main sponsors Fiji Sports Commission for coming in and helping them organise the tournament that will be held every week.

“We’re fortunate to have Peter Mazey and his crew supporting grassroots level basketball and helping youths achieve their target through sports.”
