2005-2006 Chuuk Basketball Championship (CBC)

For the last several weeks eight basketball teams have been competing in the 2005-2006 Chuuk Basketball Tournament. Teams from four of the five regions in Chuuk are have one or more teams in this tournament.

Phase one of the CBC tournament was pool play to rank the teams. At the end of these games the teams were ranked as follows:
POOL A
1. Weno Cougars
2. Mortlocks
3. Tol I
4. Nepukos

POOL B
1. Weno Mwoneau
2. Re Fairo
3. Weno 3
4. Tol II

Starting this week Phase two started, with crossover single elimination play. Today there were two games.

In the first game, Tol I team defeat the Weno Cougars in a hotly contested game by one point, the victory not determined until the last second of play. Strong inside play, rebounding and good shooting by Tol I led to their victory.

The second game saw Weno Mwoneau playing against the Mortlocks. At the start of the third quarter Weno Mwoneau had a ten point lead, one which they held until the end of the game. However, this lead did not make Mwoneau's task easy as the Mortlocks continued to shoot threes and make exciting plays which forced Weno Mwoneau to respond or face defeat.

At the end of today's games it now appears that Tol I and Weno Mwoneau as the teams that will play for the championship, with the Mortlocks and Weno Cougars vying for 3rd and 4th places. These games will be played Saturday, January14th.
