PROGRESSING - but with CONSISTENCY ?
First-time heptathlete Kaitinano has been working at her weaknesses ! Being a sprinter-jumper, she finds the throws an effort. Being typically (for a female I-Kiribati) short and having relatively short legs, she has also found learning Hurdles quite a stretch ! The timing and clearances improved greatly yesterday !
This morning at the National Stadium in Apia (Samoa) she worked at her Javelin technique, using basic drills working up to full throws. She is barely up to her level of three years ago, but her physique has changed in that time and she has gained weight and lost flexibility. So we have to see what another couple of sessions will do !
...and the OTHERS ?
The middle-distance and long-distance athletes are moving well on the track and the local hills, trying to work NOT in the heat of the day. The sprinter-hurdles-jumps group are trying to stay clear of injury, mend any current niggles, yet do some useful work in preparing check-marks, approach runs, clearance drills, flexibility work, etc. We still have more than a week before the Relay Heats, so we still hope to have a fit four for each male event next Friday.
