SIMON and TIERATA ATTEND.
President Tierata Taukaban and Assistant Secretary Simon Burennatu are currently spending eight days in Brisbane at QSAC, attending the first Oceania IAAF Level 5 (Academy) Course training Directors of Coach Development. Strangely for a course rated so highly, no advance qualifications were necessary - only interest and potential !! In advance, the explanation and content of the course seemed a mystery. It is to be hoped that at least the participants will have gleaned some useful information about how to make the best use of the human resources available in coaching. I'm sure that "capacity-building" will have been among the expressions used !
WHY WERE SOME POTENTIAL ATTENDEES STOPPED ?
A number of those who attended the first Oceania IAAF Level 5 (Academy) Chief Coach Course in January 2006 applied for the present 2007 course. The RDC Brisbane Director, Reg Brandis, was informed by IAAF that this would not be allowed !! He was still trying to argue the case as he was putting the course together. If the contents were identical, duplication would be a waste of time. However this was not given as a reason. Apart from being a disappointment, this is a short-sighted attitude by IAAF, showing once more that they are NOT sensitive to the needs of the smaller island countries.
