Latest coaching success on courses.
Two KAA coaches attended the latest IAAF CECS Level 3 course on Gold Coast. This was to qualify new coaches to develop Middle Distance (MD) and Long-Distance (LD) athletes on their islands. The two who travelled to Australia were Tekabara Raurenti and Tonobwa Kaoten. Tekabara was funded by Oceania AA and Tonobwa was sponsored.
By working together and helping each other they were both successful. It helps that they both have a good grasp of the course language, English, since both are Kiribati teachers.
It is to be hoped that Kiribati will, in the next few years, again produce MD and LD athletes to rank with Banrenga and Ruti (see KAA National Records) and with Teebwaki (see earlier 2014 story).
See images of Tekabara (white shirt) and Teebwaki (second from right).
