Athletics PNG President Tony Green was in the Dutch Capital of Amsterdam this week attending a two day forum which discussed proposals for a total reform of the IAAF. Green was invited along with three other representatives from the Oceania Area to attend the forum which discussed proposals for major changes in both the governance and operations of the IAAF.
Under its new President Sebastian Coe, the IAAF is tackling head on the enormous challenges it faces in the wake of the doping scandal which led to the suspension of Russia, as well as allegations of corruption. In February this year a Working Group was set up to look into all aspects of the structure and operations of the IAAF. Its proposals were debated this week in Amsterdam by a few representatives from each continental area. The next major phase of the project is expected to be a roadshow in October this year when the President and Working Group will visit all Continental Areas to meet with all member federations for further consultations. The final proposals will then be put to a Special Congress Meeting of all Member Federations in December 2016.
