Partnership signed with OSEP
The Oceania National Olympic Committees (ONOC), through the Oceania Sport Education Program (OSEP), signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Oceania Swimming Association (OSA) in Port Vila, Vanuatu during the Pacific Mini Games.
The MoU will see the provision of OSEP Assessor and Presenter courses to support the sport specific swim coach programs under the Pacific Sports Partnerships.
OSA has developed a training package for swim instructors which uses the OSEP Assessor and Presenter framework to train people to run the course and accurately assess trainees.
This strengthens the quality of coach education in the swimming pathway in the Pacific, and is the first step in developing a more robust coaching pathway for OSA members who do not have access to well developed coaching courses.
In the last 6 months, the PSP program has used this training package to train 137 swim instructors in in Suva and Nadi. The training package is now available to national federation members of OSA.
In addition, OSEP will provide the administration and generic coaching stream courses for all the OSA affiliates in Oceania. The administration stream consists of Sport in Communities Administrator, Management in Sporting Organisations and Advanced Sport Management Courses. The generic coaching courses are Community Strength and Conditioning coach and Development Coach courses.
OSA is also working with the FASANOC Education Commission and the Fiji Higher Education Commission to recognise the swimming courses under the Fiji National Qualifications Framework, allowing swim instructor certification to be recognised by local qualifications authorities.
