Submitted by Fiji Swimming
Fiji Swimming is grateful to the organizers of Junior Pan Pacific Games Committee for allowing the Games to be hosted in Suva, Fiji from 23-27 August 2018. Competition will be held at the Damodar Aquatic Centre in Suva.
While there will be no open water and synchronize swimming competition, Fiji is expecting 300 swimmers and officials representing twenty countries to attend. The competition is for swimmers aged 14-18yrs.
There are four core countries that will compete namely USA, Canada, Japan and Australia. Other countries (non European) that are expected to attend include New Zealand, Asian countries and Oceania. Fiji will be represented by swimmers eligible in age and have achieved minimum Bronze squad times.
Having an international competition of this caliber in Fiji following the successful hosting of the 2016 Oceania Swimming Championships is in line with Fiji Swimming strategic plans of hosting an international competition every two years.
“Hosting a quality swimming competition in Fiji not only creates the awareness but contributes towards Fiji's Sports Tourism and making Fiji a hub of Pacific sports destination,” says Fiji Swimming President, Ben Rova.
As part of the preparation, the Fiji Government is supporting Fiji Swimming with the installation of a new Score Board. This is in addition to the new timing equipment to and starting blocks funded by Government.
Fiji Swimming has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the games organisers and the Games summons will be issued soon detailing all information about the games and, competition packages for teams wishing to participate.
